I am interested in painting landscapes that spring from visual memory. It is a practice that I began several years ago while driving and traveling through the Western United States. Those early sketches were quick and simple but contained the seed of my work today. My intention is to create a balance between observation and contemplation. Painting serves both the inner and outer world, and at the same time it is about color and light. Painting is a planned spontaneous act for me. It is a process between intention and creation. I am always surprised to find a new solution to an old problem, and to discover deeper dimensions in the same image. My work is a journey and paintings are markers of places and times in life.
