Exhibition extended through July 21
The Lobby Gallery is open to the public Monday - Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM
The Lobby Gallery of the I.M. Pei designed office tower at 499 Park Avenue is now graced with an exhibition of monumental works by Robert Swain, on view through June 17, 2016. The paintings are on loan, courtesy of the artist.
The exhibition in the upper and lower atrium of the Lobby Gallery provides tenants and visitors with a dynamic display of Swain's vibrant, color grid paintings to enjoy and contemplate as they pass through the space. A review of Swain’s paintings in Art in America commented, "For over four decades, Robert Swain has used painting to examine color as a phenomenological experience. . . Having long studied the role that context plays in color perception, Swain makes grid-based paintings in which each square is given its own color, forming columns and rows that chart transitions between hues, values and levels of saturation. . . Balancing objectivity and subjectivity, analysis and intuition, Swain humanizes the effort to quantify the rainbow.”
499 Park Avenue, through its exhibition program, actively contributes to the cultural community as an expression of ongoing commitment to excellence in the visual arts and architecture.
Exhibiting artwork in commercial venues such as this can become a valuable tool for developers and property managers to market their buildings in today's competitive environment. Art adds to the cachet of a building, and can support branding and leasing efforts. Art helps set a building apart from its competitors, and provides a unique amenity for existing and prospective tenants. Art not only visually enhances a property, it is a powerful and cost-effective way to generate positive media coverage about the building. Art demonstrates a firm's commitment to support local culture for the benefit of the community.
