back to Works on Paper
Joan Schulze is an artist who works in diverse media, including fine art quilts, collage and now digital, hand-embellished prints. Over 17 years ago, she began a series of collages using fabric, paper and metal leafing. She also used photocopy processes that she had been developing. Each collage began 8" x 8" on a 11" x 11" paper base. To her, each collage is a visual poem relating to Haiku. As she focused on the compositions and experimented with processes, she found new ways of improvising with her preselected materials and uses favorite painted and dyed scraps from her large quilts, pieces that were "too good" to throw away.
