David Dunlop has been referred to as “A Modern-Day Old Master”, he has lectured at the Museum of Modern Art and has just completed a twelve part series for PBS that will be aired this year.
In his latest series of work “Grand Central Station” , he has expanded his oil on gold-leaf trademark technique to oil on copper and oil on aluminum, showing the familiar landscapes that are New York City. The chaos of commute is captured in stunning excellence.
As David says, "I had to try my own hand at these variably reflective surfaces using the translucent oil painting techniques of the old masters. I determined to use some contemporary materials, steel and aluminum, as well as the more venerable copper and gold."
